So how does it work? You’ll need a solar panel, which is composed of a number of solar cells. As sunlight falls onto a solar cell, the cell absorbs light particles (called photons). Each light particle contains a small amount of energy which enables the photon to start a process of freeing an electron in the solar cell. As the light particle is absorbed, electric wiring on both sides of the solar cell allow a flow of current. That is how solar cells produce electricity that may then be used at once or stored within a battery.
