Calling a plumber will cost you money becaise they caharge for call outs on top of their fee, but with some basic understanding by the owner the problem can be resolved.
1) Understand how your garbage disposal unit works.

2) Machine is Jammed
For a garbage disposal clogged inside, you can get a special tool which is a long metal rod with a large U ring on the end. It slides into the waste disposal and fits over the blades. Give it a gentle turn and the blades will release. Some waste disposal units are released by insertiing an allen key into a hole located directly underneath the blades.
3) Pipes are blocked
Is your garbage disposal clogged, but it is turning ok? This may be due to a blockage in the pipe. If your pipes were installed correctly you will see a U bend which will be have connections at either side of it. Unfasten the U bend connection and remove the blockage as this is where most of them occur.
